📌 Kemnay, Aberdeenshire
★★★

Former home to the family of the same name, Castle Fraser is a gorgeous 15th century castle sitting amongst rolling countryside within easy reach of Aberdeen. Approaching from the car park, the building has a bit of a hotchpotch appearance, a result of numerous alterations over the centuries all clustering round a central courtyard. It all makes more sense from the south side, old and new fusing seamlessly to create an impressively large tower house (why didn’t we take any photos from this side?!). As well as an exploring the extensive interior there are attractive grounds to wander through: the walled garden probably the highlight during summer.
