Carlungie Earth House is the most extensive of two excavated souterrains in the general area of Carnoustie in southern Angus – the other being Ardestie Earth House a few miles to the west. An impressive 40 metres of 2,000 to 3,000 year-old passageways of various sizes form a complex shape, originally all below ground level (the roofs are now missing) and once probably used for food storage.
