Brechin‘s railway station closed to passengers in 1952, but reopened four decades later as the western terminus for the Caledonian heritage railway. This tourist line runs 4 miles to Bridge of Dun (or in other words, about halfway to Montrose), which makes it a viable and unusual way to travel to the House of Dun National Trust for Scotland property. Steam and diesel engines alternate depending on the date, so plan your visit carefully if you prefer the former.
