๐Ÿ“Œ Evie, Orkney Mainland

If you think that having seen one broch you’ve seen them all, you’d be wrong. The Broch of Gurness perfectly illustrates the reason for this – the broch itself and its surroundings are overflowing with individual, unique details which give insight into how the inhabitants here lived well over two thousand years ago – from the entrance causeway to individual cupboards constructed from stone. Coupled with a small exhibition and visitor centre run by Historic Environment Scotland and a view across Eynhallow Sound to Rousay, it’s definitely worth a detour from the busier sights further south.
