📌 Fourstones, Northumberland
★★

This small watchtower is one of dozens along Hadrian’s Wall, each placed at intervals of one third of a Roman mile, two between each larger milecastle. It’s attached to a 460-metre intact stretch of wall, a couple of miles west of the better-preserved Chesters Roman Fort. Views north across the River North Tyne are good, as well as those eastwards along the broad ridge and route of the wall towards where you probably parked your car.

💬 From the car park it’s a 10-min walk (each way) to the temple. Turn right along the side road (away from the B6318 junction), then almost immediately turn left onto a signposted public footpath. Follow this for 0.5 mi through fields to the turret & wall section.
