📌 Mountain bike trails in Kielder Forest Park, Northumberland
★★★★

Kielder is a landscape of superlatives, whether you’re talking about its enormous reservoir, vast forest… or its network of mountain bike routes. The trails here are some of the UK’s very best, branching out from Kielder Castle at the northern end of Kielder Water, and they shouldn’t be taken lightly. The “multi-user” Lakeside Way circumnavigates the entire shoreline and is a monstrous 40km in length; a whole day and a good level of fitness is required despite its blue grade. The red trails are very much wilder, with the Cross Border Trail even connecting to 7stanes Newcastleton in Scotland. If time is limited, have a go at the blue Osprey or red Deadwater trails for exhilarating and much shorter alternatives.
