Close to Newton Stewart, 7stanes Kirroughtree is probably southwest Scotland’s best all-round mountain biking centre. Over 50 km of flowing trails spider through the forest above and within Bargaly Glen, with routes covering all grades. Most trails feature generous singletrack sections, with the standout red and black routes almost entirely so; meanwhile, the Bargaly Wood (green) is mostly relegated to tracks and quiet tarmac lanes. The trailhead comes with a rather fancy visitor hub – incorporating bike hire, café and nature displays – as well as worthwhile waymarked walks.
