๐ Prestonpans, East Lothian
โ
Bankton House sits on what is now farmland between the coastal settlement of Prestonpans and the A1 dual carriageway – though its architecture and bright orange colour seem more befitting of a location several hundred miles further south. This Dutch-style residence was once home to Colonel James Gardiner, who was killed while in charge of the 13th Regiment of Dragoons at the local Battle of Prestonpans in 1745. The house is private, but the adjacent dovecot was restored by the local heritage trust in 2017 and fitted with an audio-visual presentation about the colonel.
