Nine boulders make up Balgarthno Stone Circle – an ancient monument within Dundee‘s western suburbs. All the stones have toppled over except a single upright one, but the circular shape can still easily be made out, and the site is probably a couple of thousand years old. It’s surrounded by a metal fence, but the gate was unlocked on our visit, making access straightforward. The overall setting is a bit sad nowadays: scrubby grassland bordered by three roads, including the noisy Kingsway dual carriageway.
