Glenrothes is Fife’s third largest settlement, a new town built after the Second World War to help with housing demand around Edinburgh. In Scotland history is never far away however, and on the edge of one of its newest towns, you’ll find one of its oldest monuments. The residential suburb of Balbarg has a 65 metre-wide, 6,000 year old henge as its centrepiece. It consists of a circular ditch and mound, enclosing a timber circle (or circles) and a later stone circle. The site has been heavily excavated and today’s post aren’t the original ones, but its an intriguing spot nevertheless.
