Balbirnie Stone Circle lies just to the east of the A92 Glenrothes bypass, on the entrance drive to a small housing estate and Balbirnie House Hotel. 4,000 years old (a mere baby compared to the nearby Balfarg Henge), it comprises eight stones (and a couple of missing ones) as well as a central feature and a two stone cists (burial chambers); look out for ancient cup and ring marks on the latter.
