๐Ÿ“Œ Oldshoremore, Highland
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The unclassified road beyond Kinlochbervie runs for a distance of about 4 miles across barren hills. It’s an inhospitable place, but the number of new-build houses springing up alongside the tarmac hints that there’s something else drawing people to live here besides peace, quiet and peat bogs. Take any one of the four roads branching left off the main route and you’ll find the answer: a series of stunning beaches, each quieter and more remote than the last. Am Meallan – also known as Oldshoremore Beach – is the first, the largest and the most accessible… and all things considered, probably the most beautiful. The wide arc of sand ends with the tidal island of Eilean na h-Aiteig and has superb views south along the northwestern seaboard. The proximity of the North Coast 500 driving route is boosting this area’s popularity, but Oldshoremore lies a little way off the main route, helping it avoid the worst of the crowds – for now.
