Alnmouth’s extensive sands stretch over five miles from Seaton Point (to the north) as far as Amble, the next town to the south. The section of beach nearest to Alnmouth itself is divided in two by the River Aln (an easy wade at low tide unless there has been heavy rain) and is backed by a golf course and concrete anti-tank defences. High ground around the village provides good viewpoints: Church Hill on the south side of the river, and from around Alnmouth Beacon behind the main car park.
