Found in an isolated spot a couple of miles south of Taynuilt and hidden from the roadside, you’re unlikely to happen across Angus’s Garden unless you’re specifically looking for it. But this is a delightful place which really repays exploration: surprisingly well kept considering the windswept location. The distant dome of Ben Cruachan presides over shallow Loch Angus, fringed by woodland, marsh and colourful rhododendron displays earlier in the season. Paths can be a little wet and muddy, so don’t bring your best shoes. The garden was designed by Betty Macdonald in memory of her son, Angus, who was killed in Cyprus in 1956; family and friends have continued to nurture and develop the plants and paths since she passed away.
