Walk: The true colours of Aberdour

The rocky headland of Hawkcraig Point separates the two beaches of Aberdour: the popular Silversands and the smaller Black Sands. The latter in particular is well named, with dark rocks around the low tide mark contrasting with the lighter hues of the sandy shore. As for the “silver” sands, we’re not so sure – but this is nevertheless a coastline well worth exploring. A good coast path connects all the sights, including a tidal harbour, with further quiet roads and paths linking with the village centre. For such a short walk, there’s a lot to see – and we haven’t even mentioned the ancient ruin of Aberdour Castle yet, next to the car park where this route starts.

Wildlife: Seagulls, grey herons, rabbits.

Weather: 10°C with low cloud / haar at first. Sun soon breaking through extensively with temperature rising by several degrees.
