📌 Craster, Northumberland
★★★
Howick Hall Gardens cover an extensive area alongside Howick Burn, as far as the coast in the downstream direction. The arboretums stand out – most of the area is wooded – but there’s a also a beautiful rhododendron garden to explore, a daffodil bank, sensory garden, bog garden and even a church hidden in the woods. Howick Hall itself forms the hub, with some grand rooms open to the public as well as a tearoom. If you’re visiting the latter, consider sipping an Earl Grey Tea: the popular drink is named after the 2nd Earl.
