📌 Biggar, South Lanarkshire
★★★

Until fairly recently Biggar had three separate museums – perhaps surprising for town of this size – but two of them merged in 2015 to form the impressive Biggar Museum – also referred to as Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum. Perhaps the highlight is found at the back: Gladstone Court Streetscape is a row of replica shops and businesses recreating a Victorian High Street, complete with an operational telephone exchange enabling calls between shops. The front section of the museum provides an overview of Upper Clydesdale’s geography, and its history of human occupation from Late Upper Palaeolithic hunters to Polish soldiers during World War II.
