The M90 motorway follows a particularly sinuous route as it traverses the Ochil foothills before the descent towards Perth. Roadside vistas offer only a glimpse of the interesting scenery here, with steep-sided Glen Farg the unspoiled highlight, mostly out of sight from the dual carriageway. The old north-south road follows the glen floor, as well as a disused railway trackbed which was once the main Edinburgh to Perth line until the M90 was built partly on top of it. This walk explores the old railway line, using quiet tracks and roads to form an interesting and unusual circuit. Unusual? Sorry, we nearly forgot to mention two sharply curving, dark railway tunnels where mobile phone lights aren’t really sufficient. Take a proper torch – and hopefully you don’t believe in ghosts…

Wildlife: Sheep & cows in adjacent fields. Roe deer, many pheasants, goldfinches in bushes, geese flying overhead.
