Clutching a Bible to her bosom, the White Wife of Otterswick gazes out into Otters Wick bay on the east side of Yell. She does so in memory 0f four crew members of the German ship Bohus, lost at sea when the vessel was shipwrecked on nearby rocks on 26 April 1924 – with 35 survivors. The original monument was the ship’s wooden figurehead, since replaced by a replica in fibreglass.
