Follow the north bank of the River Tweed upstream from Peebles through Hay Lodge Park, and the tended lawns are abruptly replaced by a rockier stretch of riverside, shaded by Scot Pine trees from which rope swings are often attached. The next section of the river has a much wilder feel, overlooked by 13th century Neidpath Castle – now partly converted into a hotel. This beautiful circuit also passes an old railway viaduct, a couple of handsome old bridges, and the brow of a hill at Manor Sware where there are excellent views up Tweeddale.
