This unusual little excursion is a neat way to get up close to the three Forth Bridges spanning the Firth of Forth between South and North Queensferry. Unlike most of walks featured on SOBT, this route is almost entirely on roadside pavements. A pedestrian walkway across the old, 20th century road bridge (reserved for walkers, cyclists, public transport and taxis) gives great views along the tidal channel to either the 19th century Forth Rail Bridge or the 21st century Queensferry Crossing; the side you are able to use may be dictated by ongoing bridge repair work. At the end of the route, it only seems right to return to the start by catching a train from North Queensferry (complete with a small museum) – across the famous rail bridge of course. There are plenty of refreshment options in South Queensferry, and a couple in North Queensferry too.
