The Falls of Bruar are a series of exceptionally picturesque waterfalls cutting a gorge above the upmarket House of Bruar shopping complex on the A9. The path to the main viewpoint for the falls – next to an arched bridge – is understandably very popular, but fewer tourists continue to the upper gorge, where a second bridge permits a loop to be made. Recent deforestation has marred some of the views a little, but the water-sculpted plunge pools, cliffs and potholes are still full of character, with the waterfalls themselves most impressive after heavy rain. Treat yourself to some fine Scottish produce at the finish – even the chippy sells lobster.
