Walk: Cul Mor – an Assynt big boy

Cùl Mòr lies at the heart of Coigach and Assynt’s western boglands, and is the highest of all the charismatic individual peaks in this region. Its three summits therefore afford superb views over the entire area, with a decent hill path helping for most of the ascent. Suilven and Canisp are particularly prominent from the main summit, while the precipitous western extremity of Sròn Gharbh has a wonderful outlook over Enard Bay and the western seaboard. A steep detour to the southern top of Creag nan Calman on the way back reveals the best views of Stac Pollaidh, looking comically tiny from here and encircled by numerous lochans.
