Kinloch Rannoch, Perth & Kinross
★★★★
Craig Varr may only be a subsidiary summit of the higher Beinn a’ Chuallaich, but this prominent rocky bluff is perhaps the finest panorama anywhere in the Rannoch region. The hill’s position between Loch Rannoch and Dunalastair Water affords truly sensational views of both, with Schiehallion’s triangular profile looming large to the south. Zig-zagging tracks on the lower slopes allow a swift though exhausting ascent, before paths fade to boggy grasslands just short of the final climb. Don’t let the tiring terrain put you off – this is one of the most rewarding short walks in the Central Highlands.
