Beinn Lora is the partly forested hill rising above Benderloch, well seen from Connel to the south. The summit panorama is a watery one owing to the maze of sea lochs on three sides: Loch Creran, Loch Etive, the Lynn of Lorn and Ardmucknish Bay give this walk an island feel even though it’s on the Argyll mainland. Excellent paths cover the steep lower slopes, with two superb viewpoints at Creag an Γig and Eagle’s Eyrie which would make great objectives in themselves for a shorter route. These surfaced walkways give a false sense of security if you’re aiming for the very top though; the path abruptly transitions to a rough and soggy one for the swamp-like final approach to the trig point. Waterproof boots strongly advised!
