π Amulree, Perth & Kinross

The remote settlement of Amulree was once situated on key military and cattle droving routes through the Central Highlands. Nowadays it’s little more than a handful of cottages and farms, and the A-road through the region mostly only carries local traffic. If you haven’t visited, you’re missing out; this is an area with some magnificent scenery. A drive through Sma’ Glen when approaching Amulree from the south gives a tantalising taste, but walking further west into upper Glen Almond and Glen Lochan (linked by a narrow pass) gives full immersion in the landscape and a guaranteed escape from any sort of crowds whatsoever – we had all 13 miles of this route completely to ourselves.
