๐Ÿ“Œ Innerleithen, Scottish Borders
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

4,000 acres of estate surround the historic residence of Traquair House, deep in Scottish Border country in the upper reaches of the River Tweed. Its unique selling point is that it holds the title for Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, having been a home since at least 1107 (and belonging to the same family since 1491). Many of the house’s interesting features relate to generations of the family being brought up as Catholic amongst post-Reformation Scotland; look out for quirks such as the secret Priest’s Room with its concealed exit and escape staircase. Extensive grounds and woodland walks include the country’s largest maze… allow plenty of time for the latter!!
