Northeast from Stornoway, the B895 runs for over a dozen miles along Lewis’s decidedly un-touristy east coast. A lovely surprise awaits those who travel to the far end at Tolsta: this superb, 2 mile-long sandy beach with cliffs at either end is one of the island’s very best. The most dramatic view is from the high ground beyond the beach’s southern end (visited on our Tolsta Head walk), from where the Heisgeir sea stacks can also be admired.
