📌 Durness, Highland
★★★

Tràigh Allt Chàilgeag is a few miles east on the winding coast road from Durness, next to the abandoned Ceannabeinne Township. It’s right on the North Coast 500, so makes a perfect break from the tarmac. There are beautiful views to the ultra-remote Whiten Head peninsula from the pristine sand, but the beach has lost some of its remote feel in recent years. Previously only frequented by the opportunist passer by or well informed surfer, it’s now the site of the UK’s northernmost zip line – which no doubt arouses strong feelings. Having last visited before the attraction opened, we’re eager to try it out, though the solitude we experienced in the photos below may be a thing of the past – at least in high season.
