📌 Old Town, City of Edinburgh
★★★

The People’s Story Museum can be found towards the lower end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, and chronicles the history of this city from the perspective of “ordinary” residents, some of whom of course led lives which were anything but ordinary. The focus is on working class society between the 18th century and the present day, including trade, crime and punishment, social welfare and reform; it’s an old-fashioned and cramped space, but the focus on individual lives is unusual among the capital’s museums, and entrance is free.
