It’s easy to forget about The McManus amidst all the excitement surrounding the recent opening of the V&A Dundee; the place was almost deserted on a weekend afternoon when the V&A was heaving. We much prefer the McManus: this smart, Victorian Gothic building is Dundee‘s main museum and an excellent advert for Scotland’s fourth city. The 8 galleries on two floors are more extensive than you might imagine from the building’s compact exterior, and cover everything from the city’s past and present industries (jute, jam, journalism, as well as whaling, shipbuilding and more) to the wider region’s varied wildlife, as well as an extensive art collection. Allow a couple of hours for an in-depth visit.
