The Fruitmarket Gallery is a smallish arts and events space almost immediately opposite the City Art Centre on Market Street, Edinburgh. While the City Art Centre mainly showcases Scottish works, The Fruitmarket Gallery has an international, mainly contemporary focus – with exhibitions quite often at the wackier end of the spectrum. And the name? The building had a former life as a fruit and vegetable market (I’m guessing that The Fruitandvegetablemarket Gallery wasn’t deemed catchy enough).
