Temple Wood is the picturesque setting for the best-preserved stone circle in Kilmartin Glen – but there’s more to it than that. A timber ring was first constructed here at least 5,000 years ago, before a stone circle was built next to this. Burial cairns were later added to this increasingly complex site, along with smaller burial cists. One of the stones in the circle features a spiral motif similar to Irish passage-grave art, suggesting an ancient link between these two regions.
