📌 Nature reserve near Tayvallich, Argyll & Bute

This remote nature reserve near Tayvallich covers an unspoiled finger of the Taynish peninsula, surrounded by myriad sea lochs. Age-old woodland drowning in lichen (a sign of the exceptionally clean air) extends right down to the water’s edge, with a good chance of spotting otters in the shallows. 126 metre-high Bàrr Mòr rises above the forest with superb views on a clear day. There are two manmade, ruined structures worth a visit: Taynish Mill and a surprisingly ornate piggery occasionally used to host art exhibitions. There are three waymarked trails at time of writing, which can be combined to make a pleasant circuit lasting half a day or so.
