📌 Isle of Rousay, Orkney Isles
★★★

Of all the chambered cairns on the Orcadian island of Rousay that are easily accessible to the public, Taversöe Tuick is the closest to the ferry terminal, and also has the most unusual layout. The tomb is made up of three chambers: one is laid directly over the top of the other, with the third chamber a little way downhill. All had separate entrances originally, though access is now slightly different, involving a ladder. The lower of the vertical chambers is divided by stone compartments and shelves in which a crouched skeleton was found; other bones and pottery were discovered elsewhere in the cairn.

💬 From the layby it’s a 5-min walk (each way) uphill to the cairn on a fairly wide path.
