πŸ“Œ Strathy, Highland
β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

If you only visit one beach on Scotland’s far north coast, Strathy Bay should be it. This fine expanse of sand stretches half a mile out into the Atlantic Ocean at low tide – there’s not much at all above the high water mark – backed by a barrier of sand dunes and the mouth of the River Strathy. The beach is bookended by low cliffs, with a narrow sea cave on the eastern side which you can walk right through. In common with many of the region’s other north-facing bays, this is a superb surfing destination – and you’ll probably have the waves largely to yourself. Strathy itself is a small, scattered place; the Strathy Inn serves food.
