A local museum is usually the best place to start any visit to a new town or city. In Stirling‘s case it has to be actively sought out, being located southwest of the main tourist or shopping districts. The museum was founded in 1874 by bequest from artist Thomas Stuart Smith, and several of his remarkably varied works are on display here. Two galleries house art exhibitions, while the third tells “The Stirling Story” from prehistoric times to the present day.
