πŸ“Œ Staffin, Isle of Skye
β˜…β˜…β˜…

Dinosaurs on Skye? Yes indeed – the island is a hotspot for evidence of these ancient reptiles, with 15% of the world’s mid-Jurassic discoveries found here to date. At Staffin beach, several three-toed hadrosaur footprints can clearly be made out (subject to sand, seaweed and tides) on flat rocks. As you look in wonder, imagine how amazed the local dog walker who discovered them in 2002 must have been! The prints are only a few (dino-sized) steps from a large car park and are predictably popular; please don’t stamp around on them, so they stay well preserved for many future generations to enjoy. If the footprints are hidden for whatever reason, the small sandy beach is still a nice place to explore, with good views offshore to Staffin Island and west to The Quiraing. There’s also more info on dinosaurs at Staffin Dinosaur Museum nearby.
