Edinburgh‘s Episcopal cathedral is located slightly off the beaten track for any tourist visiting Scotland’s capital city, but this enormous building totally dominates the West End district. Its main spire reaches 90 metres high, making this the tallest building in Edinburgh; two more flanking spires – “Barbara” and “Mary” – are named after two sisters whose bequest allowed the cathedral to be built in the 1870s. The architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott, who drew up plans in early Gothic style. The cathedral is the last in Scotland to offer daily choral services, and boasts its own choir school and choristers.
