South Sands (Troon)

Residents of Troon have two town beaches to choose from, one either side of the promontory and port from which ferries used to sail to Northern Ireland. The sandy beach on the south side is by far the best, with crazy golf, refreshment kiosk and even a big Ferris wheel on our visit. The end of the beach closest to the town centre gets quite busy in good weather, but soon becomes quieter if you follow the broad esplanade south.
