📌 Lerwick, Shetland Mainland
★★

Shetland Textile Museum is housed within the Böd of Gremista: an 18th century former fishing house a mile or so along Bressay Sound from Lerwick town centre. One of the building’s first residents was Arthur Anderson, who went on to become co-founder of (what is now) P&O Ferries. The böd became derelict in the mid 1900s, but was eventually restored and re-opened as a museum in 1987. The current focus is on textiles, knitting and spinning, with lots of fine items to admire from across the archipelago as well as regular demonstrations.
