Alloway, South Ayrshire
★★
Originally belonging to the wealthy Hamilton family, the Rozelle Estate is now a relaxing public park forming a buffer between the suburbs of Ayr and Alloway – and within easy walking distance of the latter’s Robert Burns attractions. Forest walks, a couple of picturesque duck ponds and a moving Remembrance Woodland and sculpture trail form the most interesting, west half of the 96-acre estate, the air scented with wild garlic in early summer. Rozelle House sits at the park’s centre with a tea room and two art galleries occupying the extended Georgian mansion.
