📌 Grave & churches in Balquhidder, Stirling
★★
The quiet hamlet of Balquhidder in the Central Highlands is the resting place for one of Scotland’s most famous figures. Rob Roy MacGregor – outlaw and hero to many – is buried here as well as his wife and two sons. The proclamation of “MacGregor despite them” on the gravestone behind the main, horizontal slabs is a reference to the government restricting the clan and banning use of the MacGregor name. Balquidder Old Church, found directly behind the grave, dates to 1631, with the current Parish Church being built alongside two centuries later. The rallying point for the rival MacClaren clan is found on the hillside above at Creag an Tuirc, and is a superb viewpoint for the area.
