📌 Old Town, City of Edinburgh
★★

City churches are often havens of quiet in the heart of busy places, but perhaps none more so than the Episcopalian congregation of Old St Paul’s, Edinburgh. When we visited the church is was still and dark – even in the middle of the day – with the lights off and the strong smell of incense hanging in the air. Although a large building in itself, the 19th century building appears squashed in between two larger blocks: the result being that the interior is often quite dark (perhaps adding to the peaceful feel). The nearest other landmark is the chaos of Edinburgh’s main railway station – but other than physically, they couldn’t be further apart.
