๐Ÿ“Œ Nairn, Highland
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

Nairn‘s biggest summertime draw is its enormous sandy beach extending eastwards towards Moray, set slightly apart from the town centre with a golf course and the attractive Fishertown district in between. Don’t be put off by the alternative name of The Maggot – which may come from the Gaelic magh, referring to a wide, open area. There are two parts to the beach, separated by a harbour and the mouth of the River Nairn (with a footbridge). The western side is much the smaller portion, bordering Fishertown; the east beach is enormous, stretching half a mile out to sea at low tide, and along the coast for several miles towards Culbin Forest and Findhorn. There are excellent views across the Moray Firth to Sutherland and Caithness no matter which part you visit, and dolphin sightings are fairly frequent. Cafes, takeaways, boat trip operators and a caravan park complete the list of ingredients for a traditional seaside break.
