πŸ“Œ Old Town, City of Edinburgh
β˜…β˜…β˜…

With a name like the Museum of Edinburgh, this striking yellow building on the lower part of the Royal Mile sounds like an important place. Let’s get the record straight: it’s a fairly old fashioned museum (though much larger than it looks from the outside – the interior extends a long way back from the kerbside) that gets overwhelmed by high season footfall. Nevertheless, we think this is one of the better places to start any extended trip to Edinburgh, giving a slightly haphazard but comprehensive overview of the capital’s history and important artefacts all the way from its smelly old town origins up until the new town and present day, finishing with extensive collections of silverware, glassware and pottery.
