The Museum of the Cumbraes in Millport gives a fairly brief but interesting overview of the history of Great and Little Cumbrae islands and their famous locals. It’s just one part of Garrison House: a bright, airy building beautifully restored after a serious fire. The house reopened in 2008 and contains a large cafe, library, council offices and health facilities in addition to the museum, forming the island community’s main hub. Don’t miss it if you’re visiting the town, even if you only pop in for a few minutes.
