Britain’s first purpose-built public observatory can be found at the top of Balgay Hill – one of the volcanic mounds dotted around Dundee‘s urban quarters. With telescopes, information displays and planetarium shows, there’s potentially quite a lot to see here – but most of this is only accessible on winter evenings, which is perhaps more of use to locals rather than (mostly summer-loving) tourists. If the observatory is closed, you can still enjoy some good views over the city from the vicinity – though Dundee Law a mile to the east probably makes the better vantage point.
