πŸ“Œ Lochranza, Isle of Arran
β˜…β˜…

Lochranza is one of the few settlements on Arran’s quieter west coast, separated from the island’s east side by a high road pass. The tiny village forms a strung-out horseshoe, gazing onto Loch Ranza which provides a beautiful focus. Alone on a peninsula jutting into the loch is Lochranza Castle, which appears to be formidably sited at the very centrepoint of the bay when viewed from the sea (such as from Arran’s “backdoor” ferry from Lochranza to Claonaig). The atmospheric ruin is over 700 years old, built by Clan MacSween and was converted into a tower house in the 1500s.
