Scotland isn’t exactly well known for its theme parks, so it might come as even more of a surprise to find one in the heart of the Highlands, within the Cairngorms National Park. It’s very much a family affair rather than a white-knuckled experience, though there’s a series of water slides – a small rollercoaster on our 2016 visit (when these photos were taken) has since been removed. Many other attractions are themed around the landscape and its wildlife. A scenic treetop trail threads through ancient Scots pine forest, apparently with a good chance of spotting red squirrels. The trees’ sturdy trunks also provide useful anchors for the highest of three high ropes courses, while climbing to the top of a fire tower gets you above the forest canopy with great views over Strathspey. A large butterfly house tops the list of indoor parts useful in unkind weather. Many of the park’s components would be popular attractions in their own right elsewhere in Scotland.
